Automotive Repair Training: Getting ASE Certified

By AJ Fanter

How do qualified automotive repair specialists demonstrate that they have the training and skills necessary to work on today's highly sophisticated vehicles? They not only receive formal automotive repair training, but they also take the time to become ASE certified.

ASE certification isn't only for automotive repair technicians, it's also the gold standard for automotive repair training programs.

ASE for Automotive Repair Training Programs

According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, ASE certification is the recognized standard for automotive repair training programs, whether they are located in high schools, technical institutes, trade schools or community colleges. In addition, many automotive manufacturers also offer ASE-certified automotive repair instruction, where students can receive training on current model cars, as well as modern service equipment, in order to learn the latest in automotive technology.

Receiving Automotive Repair Training

As it is with automotive service and repair technicians, obtaining ASE certification is voluntary for training programs. By choosing a training program that has ASE certification, you can be confident that the automotive repair training you are going to receive not only meets pre-selected and uniform standards for curriculum, but also for equipment, instructional facilities and staff. In addition, those automotive repair training programs that are ASE certified are required to keep up with the latest in technology and repair techniques, as well as the latest ASE standards. There are roughly 2,000 ASE certified automotive repair training programs available.
